2017 WRAP-UP

December 23, 2017

Holy cow, 2017 was a weird year.

Long story short, I had a hard decision to make around October. The Blood Series wasn’t selling, I poured all my energy and effort into getting all 3 books out and a finished series in the hands of readers and it just went nowhere.

When I started writing Heart of the Fae, I knew something good was happening. I could feel it in my bones that this was a really good book, and that it could do extremely well. The problem? I didn’t have any idea how to get it out into the world.

October was a month of research, writing, editing, and pouring all my energy into making something of myself. You see, I had to make a very important decision. Try one last time to throw all the cards on the table and force myself into career authorship, or keep waiting for it to come to me. Obviously, option #2 wasn’t working.

I’ll come clean, I was about one more stressful addition in my life from tossing my hands up and saying “I’m just going to give up”. I would have kept writing, it’s part of my blood now, but I couldn’t make it work for me. I couldn’t do a damn thing right and no matter what I did, books didn’t sell. And if they did sell, people didn’t like them. I hadn’t cracked the code of authorship.

Anyways, complaining aside, I’m glad I didn’t choose option #2.

2017 wrapped up with almost 2,000 copies of Heart of the Fae sold (in one month) and Veins of Magic trailing behind with a whopping 500 copies sold (in three days).

What the hell happened?

Honestly, I still have no idea. I wrote a good book , and I found a genre with plenty of wonderful people who read voraciously. These are people who will stick around, grow relationships, help me make my craft better, and who give me reviews that help build my brand, my stories, and remind myself why I do this.

It doesn’t look like it’s going to slow any time soon, so I’m going to enjoy the ride and keep writing stories that you’ll (hopefully) enjoy. So let’s get into 2018 plans, shall we?

Surprise! I am running 2 kinds of storylines through the Otherworld Series. Heart of the Fae and Veins of Magic are considered part of the original storyline, and then I will also be writing a bunch of Companion Novels that go with the series! The “Originals” and main characters are nobility, and those that affect the way the Otherworld runs (princes, kings, dukes, etc).

Companion novels will be about normal characters who live normal lives. All books (other than the 2fers of the original storyline) can be read out of order.

Bride of the Sea is the first Companion Novel, and will be roughly 400 pages. Not quite the beast of HotF and VoM which require a split publication, but a complete storyline I’m confident you will adore.

I don’t want to give away toooooo much, but obviously it’s a retelling of the Little Mermaid. You might recognize the character from Heart of the Fae! Captain Manus, the mysterious pirate with the yellow bellied boat makes a comment about how he has two wives. One is the sea and the other-?

Well you’ll have to find out.

I know we’ve all been waiting for it, so drum roll please!

Bran’s book will be releasing in June! He has quite the journey to go through, and there’s an incredible storyline to go with it. I’m insanely proud of this one, and it will answer a lot of questions people had in the first two books. Why aren’t the faeries more feral? Isn’t that the legend?

You’re absolutely correct! However, Heart of the Fae and Veins of Magic focused on the Seelie Court who are otherwordly in a different way. They are much more “pretty”. The Unseelie Court? Obviously not so much if you remember Bran’s mother.

I’m excited to say this is a retelling of the Swan Princess, and a mashup of the Children of Lir which is where the Swan Princess derived its original tale from. That’s it! That’s all you get!

I obviously can’t reveal much about this one, sorry my loves!! Part two will be released in November, and I’m just saying…. I love this series haha.

And that’s all I’ve got for updates! If you need me, I’ll be cranking through these books like a machine. I’m focused, I’m ready, and I’m hitting 2018 with a stride I refuse to break.

I hope you enjoy these next books as much as I do. <3

Happy Holidays and Happy New Years!
